The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Green, J. (2012). The fault in our stars. New York, NY: Penguin Books.

The Fault in Our Stars Hazel Grace is aged 16 and she has terminal cancer. When she reluctantly attends a Cancer Kid support group she meets Augustus Waters, a young man in recovery from cancer. They fall in love and take their 'trip of their lifetime' together, to meet a famous author. This book has been phenomenally popular with teen readers, both boys and girls, and has been made into a hit movie.
John Green knows how to 'talk to teens' - his other books have also been immensely popular. His handling of sensitive subjects, like teen relationships and cancer, seems to resonate with his audience and no subject is taboo. It seems to me that he allows young people to express their joys, fears and feelings about being a teen in today's world. This book is heart-warming, heart-breaking and it is brilliant.
